Choosing a Tour

2 Hour Paddle – offers an introduction to sea kayaking and to Bonne Bay. Winds are typically lighter in the morning and can be stronger in the afternoon.

3 Hour Nature Paddle & Aquarium Tour – offers an ocean learning experience with a marine specialist  that is slower paced and hands-on. 2½ hours on Bonne Bay followed by a tour of the Bonne Bay Marine Station Aquarium.

4.5 Hour Paddle & Shuttle – offers a longer outing in sometimes more challenging paddling conditions and is an opportunity to see more of Bonne Bay. Paddle one way, return via water taxi from Woody Point.

What Will I See

Bonne Bay is a sea kayaker’s paradise with its pristine waters, quaint coastal villages and spectacular views of the Tablelands, Gros Morne Mountain and the Long Range Mountains.

Minke whales are frequent visitors and throughout the whole paddling season we see bald eagles, common and Arctic terns, sea stars, sea urchins, lush kelp beds and colourful seaweeds.

Choosing a Double or Single Kayak

Double kayaks are stable and less difficult to paddle; single kayaks are less stable and may require more upper body strength depending on conditions.

Youth must be at least 13 years of age to paddle in a single.

Safety and comfort is of utmost importance so please note that one’s experience and the weather conditions of the day are taken into consideration when single kayaks are requested. Single kayaks are less stable.

Weather Cancellations

Tours are cancelled when we deem weather conditions unsafe for paddling (high winds, heavy rain, etc.)

We do paddle in rainy and cool conditions however we offer our guests the choice to cancel or reschedule their tour.

Upon booking a tour, we require a credit card number to hold your reservation. We process the payment when you come in to register on the day of the tour.

We will charge your credit card if you booked the tour, the tour runs and you did not notify us to cancel your booking at least 12 hours in advance.

What To Bring

Typically you just need to dress for the air temperature when you paddle on Bonne Bay. We provide a PFD and a spray skirt to keep you dry, however your paddle technique is how you keep dry! During summer the water temperatures in Bonne Bay can reach 17-19°C (63-66°F)…actually quite pleasant.

  • Sun hat with a wide brim
  • Fleece – if the air is cool a light fleece is best since your PFD provides warmth
  • Hiking shorts are generally fine since your legs are below the deck of the kayak
  • Sneakers or sandals – we can get you launched without getting your feet wet
  • Rain jacket – if it’s misty or overcast. When we get rain associated with wind we cancel.
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun block
  • Water bottle…we do sell bottled water onsite if you need it
  • Binoculars
  • Dry bags – we do have a selection available if you need one
  • Treats – if you think that you’ll need a snack

All outings start from our office on the Norris Point Waterfront. Please arrive 30 minutes before tour time.

Our office is located on the waterfront in Norris Point. Follow the Main Road though town until you reach the end (near wharf & Bonne Bay Marine Station). Turn right at the stop sign and we’re about 100m over on Clarke’s Lane. Red building with lots of kayaks. If you’re staying in Rocky Harbour just take Pond Road to Norris Point. It’s a 15 minute drive.
